Free volume
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004659
The unoccupied space within a material that is not occupied by the atoms or molecules themselves, but is available for their movement. This concept is particularly relevant in polymers, where it influences properties such as diffusion, viscosity, and glass transition temperature. It is often expressed as a fraction of the total volume.
