Volume viscosity

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012620

A coefficient that describes a fluid's resistance to isotropic compression or expansion, distinct from its resistance to shear deformation. It accounts for the energy dissipation that occurs when a fluid undergoes changes in volume. This property is particularly relevant in phenomena involving sound propagation and shock waves in fluids.
