Shear thinning

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010804

A rheological behavior observed in non-Newtonian fluids where the apparent viscosity decreases as the shear rate increases. This phenomenon, also known as pseudoplasticity, occurs because the internal structure of the fluid rearranges under shear, reducing resistance to flow. Many paints, polymer solutions, and biological fluids exhibit shear thinning.
