Shear stress
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010803
A force acting tangentially to a surface per unit area, causing deformation by sliding layers of material past each other. It arises from forces that are parallel to the cross-section of a material, leading to a change in its shape rather than its volume. Shear stress is measured in pascals (Pa) or pounds per square inch (psi).
