Shear modulus
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010801
A measure of a material's resistance to being deformed by shear stress, also known as the modulus of rigidity. It quantifies the elastic response of a solid when a force is applied parallel to one of its surfaces while the opposite surface is held fixed. The shear modulus, denoted by G, is calculated as the ratio of shear stress to the resulting shear strain and is expressed in units of pressure, such as pascals.
