Eddy

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003570

A localized region within a fluid flow where the fluid moves in a circular or swirling motion, deviating from the general flow direction. Eddies are formed by shear forces or obstacles in the flow path and contribute to turbulent mixing. Their size can range from millimeters to kilometers in atmospheric and oceanic systems.
