Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-008979

1. In the Earth's atmosphere, small turbulent eddies occur in the daytime when surface air is warmed by contact with the ground and then rises. On a larger scale, the huge high- and low-pressure centers that move over the Earth may be considered eddies because they go against the general circulation.

2. A circular movement of water or air that is formed where currents pass obstructions or between two adjacent currents that are flowing counter to each other.

3. Small volume of air (or any fluid) that behaves differently from the larger flow in which it exists.
