Diffusion barrier
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003192
A layer or membrane that controls the rate at which a substance, such as a drug, moves from a region of higher concentration to one of lower concentration. In pharmaceutics, this is a key component in modified-release dosage forms, regulating the release of the active pharmaceutical ingredient into the body over time. The barrier's properties, like thickness and porosity, determine the drug's diffusion rate.
