A pharmaceutical process in which a drug is mixed into an excipient or a mixture of excipients, forming a matrix dosage form, so that the rate of drug release is changed. In histology the same word means surrounding a tissue specimen with paraffin wax or resin before cutting it into thin sections for microscopy.
