Delayed-release dosage form

A pharmaceutical preparation designed to release its active drug substance at a time other than immediately following administration. This is achieved through special coatings, such as enteric coatings, or other formulation techniques. The purpose is often to protect the drug from gastric acid or to target drug release to a specific intestinal segment.
