Enteric coating
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003948
A polymer barrier applied to oral medication, such as tablets or capsules, that prevents dissolution or disintegration in the acidic environment of the stomach. This coating allows the drug to pass through the stomach intact and dissolve in the higher pH environment of the small intestine. It is used to protect acid-labile drugs or to prevent gastric irritation.
