Entatic state
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003947
A strained or distorted conformation of a metal ion in a metalloprotein, which is poised for reaction and has a higher potential energy than its relaxed state. This pre-organized state lowers the activation energy for subsequent chemical transformations. The entatic state hypothesis explains the high catalytic efficiency of many metalloenzymes.
