Catalytic site

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001730

A specific location on the surface of a catalyst or within an enzyme where the chemical reaction takes place. This site possesses the unique geometric and electronic properties necessary to bind reactants, facilitate bond breaking and formation, and release products. The efficiency of a catalyst is directly related to the number and activity of its catalytic sites.
