Crown conformation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002739
A conformation of a saturated ring with an even number of atoms, eight or more, in which the ring atoms lie alternately in two parallel planes and are all symmetry-equivalent, as in the D4d crown form of cyclooctane and the D5d form of cyclodecane. It is the larger-ring counterpart of the chair of cyclohexane. Cyclooctane itself prefers the boat-chair, because the crown form is strained by transannular hydrogen interactions.
