Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002738
A macrocyclic polyether that forms a cyclic structure capable of encapsulating metal ions or other guest molecules within its central cavity. These compounds are characterized by their ability to selectively bind cations through ion-dipole interactions with the oxygen atoms in the ring. The nomenclature for these compounds often includes the total number of atoms in the ring and the number of oxygen atoms, such as 18-crown-6.
