Macrocyclic component
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006864
A molecule containing at least one ring large enough to be threaded onto a linear section of another molecule, as in a rotaxane or pseudorotaxane. It is usually a discrete macrocyclic compound such as a crown ether, cyclodextrin or cucurbituril, although a macromolecule carrying a threadable ring also qualifies. Threading a simple polyethylene chain needs a ring of at least 24 members.
