Pseudorotaxane

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009643

A supramolecular assembly consisting of a macrocyclic component threaded onto a linear threading component, held together by non-covalent interactions such as hydrogen bonding, charge-transfer interactions, or hydrophobic effects. Unlike a rotaxane, the components are not mechanically interlocked and can dissociate. These structures are precursors to rotaxanes and can exhibit dynamic behavior.
