Threading component
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012022
The linear or branched macromolecule that passes through the cavity of one or more macrocyclic components in the formation of a pseudorotaxane or rotaxane. This component acts as the 'thread' in the mechanically interlocked molecular architecture. For a stable rotaxane to form, the threading component must possess bulky end-groups, called stoppers, that are too large to pass through the macrocycle's cavity.
