Binding site

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001231

A specific region on a molecule, typically a protein or nucleic acid, where another molecule (a ligand) can reversibly attach. The interaction at this site is governed by non-covalent forces such as hydrogen bonds, van der Waals forces, and electrostatic interactions. The shape and chemical properties of the binding site determine its specificity for particular ligands.
