Hydrogen bond
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005469
An attractive interaction between a hydrogen atom covalently bonded to a highly electronegative atom (such as oxygen, nitrogen, or fluorine) and another electronegative atom in the same or a different molecule. This interaction is primarily electrostatic but also has a partial covalent character. Hydrogen bonds are weaker than covalent or ionic bonds but stronger than typical van der Waals forces, playing a role in the properties of water and biological macromolecules.
