Chalcogen bond

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001863

A noncovalent interaction occurring when an electrophilic region on a covalently bonded chalcogen atom (sulfur, selenium, tellurium, or polonium) interacts with a nucleophilic region on another atom. This interaction is directional and can be attractive, similar to a hydrogen bond or halogen bond. The strength of the chalcogen bond increases with the polarizability of the chalcogen atom.
