Halogen bond
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005082
A non-covalent interaction between an electrophilic region on a halogen atom (X) and a nucleophilic region on another atom (Y). The electrophilic region, known as the sigma-hole, is located along the extension of the covalent bond to the halogen. This interaction is increasingly recognized for its role in crystal engineering and drug design.
