Bond order
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001420
A measure of the number of chemical bonds between a pair of atoms, indicating the strength and stability of the bond. It is typically calculated as half the difference between the number of electrons in bonding and antibonding molecular orbitals. A bond order of 1 corresponds to a single bond, 2 to a double bond, and 3 to a triple bond.
