Bonding molecular orbital
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001425
A molecular orbital formed by the constructive interference of atomic orbitals, resulting in increased electron density between the nuclei and a lower energy state for the molecule. Electrons occupying these orbitals contribute to the stability of the chemical bond. This type of orbital is lower in energy than the atomic orbitals from which it was formed.
