Natural hybrid orbital
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007776
A hybrid orbital obtained from a natural orbital analysis, which describes the bonding within a molecule in terms of localized atomic orbitals. These orbitals are formed by combining atomic orbitals on a single atom to achieve optimal overlap with orbitals from other atoms. They provide a quantitative description of hybridization states, such as sp3 or sp2, in molecular structures.
