Bonding number
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001426
The number of bonds formed by a skeletal atom in a parent hydride, counted as its bonds to neighboring skeletal atoms plus the hydrogen atoms attached to it. It is cited with the lambda convention in names where an atom departs from its standard valence, such as lambda6-sulfane for SH6. In SH2 the bonding number of sulfur is 2, and in SH6 it is 6.
