Bond-stretch isomers
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001427
Isomers that possess identical atomic connectivity but differ significantly in the length of one or more specific chemical bonds. These molecules represent distinct minima on a potential energy surface, separated by a small energy barrier, leading to an equilibrium between the different forms. This phenomenon is distinct from simple vibrational excitation, as the different forms are considered separate, albeit interconverting, chemical species observed in some coordination complexes.
