Substitutive name
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011530
A systematic name for a chemical compound derived by identifying a parent hydride or parent compound and then indicating the replacement of hydrogen atoms by other atoms or groups. This naming convention is widely used in organic chemistry to construct unambiguous names for complex molecules. For instance, 'chloromethane' is a substitutive name for CH3Cl.
