Additive name
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000234
A type of chemical name formed by citing the name of a parent structure and adding prefixes that denote atoms or groups joined to it. This method conceptually describes the formation of a molecule by the addition of atoms to a parent structure, without the substitution of any existing atoms. For example, 'ethylene oxide' is an additive name for oxirane, formed by adding an oxygen atom across the double bond of ethylene.
