Additive matrix effect

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000233

A matrix effect whose size does not depend on how much analyte is present, so it shifts the signal by a constant amount and alters the intercept of a linear calibration line while leaving its slope unchanged. Alternative names are translational effect and background interference. Subtracting a matrix-matched blank corrects it, whereas standard addition does not, because that method only compensates for effects that change the slope.
