Additive

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000230

A substance intentionally incorporated into a material in small quantities to modify its chemical or physical properties. Additives are not the main component but are introduced during processing or before use to achieve a specific technical effect, such as stabilization, coloration, or improved performance. For example, antioxidants are added to polymers to prevent degradation, and their concentration is often regulated, such as by the FDA for food-contact materials.
