Chiral additive

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002000

A chiral selector added as a component of the mobile phase or of an electrophoretic medium, rather than bound to the stationary phase, so that it forms transient diastereomeric complexes with the enantiomers and separates them on an achiral column or capillary. Cyclodextrins, chiral crown ethers and macrocyclic antibiotics serve as additives in HPLC and in capillary electrophoresis, where cyclodextrins are the most common selector.
