Chiral feature
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002001
A structural element of a molecule that is responsible for its chirality, meaning its non-superimposability on its mirror image. Such features include a stereogenic center (an atom with four different substituents), a stereogenic axis, or a stereogenic plane. The presence of a chiral feature is a sufficient condition for a molecule to be chiral, provided it does not also possess an element of reflectional symmetry like a mirror plane.
