Stereogenic center
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011374
An atom in a molecule that is bonded to a set of ligands in such a way that exchanging any two ligands leads to a stereoisomer. This atom is typically a carbon atom bonded to four different groups, making it a chiral center. Other atoms like nitrogen, phosphorus, or sulfur can also be stereogenic centers under certain conditions.
