Enantiomeric units
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003865
A pair of configurational units of one constitutional unit that are non-superposable mirror images, such as the R and S forms of the propylene unit in a polypropylene chain. They arise either from chiral monomers or, more often in vinyl polymers, from a prochiral monomer that creates a stereogenic center on addition. In syndiotactic polypropylene the two forms alternate regularly along the chain.
