Prochirality centre
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009496
An atom in a molecule that is not chiral but can become a chirality center by the replacement of one of its two enantiotopic or diastereotopic ligands with a different ligand. For example, a carbon atom bonded to two identical groups and two different groups is a prochiral center. The two identical groups are then designated as pro-R and pro-S.
