Desymmetrization step
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003075
A chemical transformation that converts a molecule possessing a plane or center of symmetry into a chiral molecule. This process involves differentiating between enantiotopic or diastereotopic groups or faces within the symmetrical starting material. An example is the selective functionalization of one identical group in a meso compound to create a stereocenter.
