Desymmetrization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003074
A chemical transformation that converts a achiral molecule or a symmetrical chiral molecule into a chiral molecule with a lower degree of symmetry. This process often involves the selective modification of one of several equivalent functional groups or faces in a prochiral substrate. It is a key strategy in asymmetric synthesis for generating enantiomerically enriched compounds.
