Asymmetric synthesis

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000863

A chemical reaction or sequence of reactions that converts an achiral starting material into a chiral product, or a racemic starting material into a product with an excess of one enantiomer. This process aims to create new chiral centers or to control the stereochemistry of existing ones. The efficiency is often expressed as enantiomeric excess.
