Asymmetric enantiomer-differentiating polymerization

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000857

A polymerization in which a chiral catalyst or initiator acts on a racemic mixture of chiral monomers and polymerizes essentially only one enantiomer, leaving the other behind, so the polymer formed is optically active. It is a kinetic resolution of the monomer and a form of asymmetric polymerization. A monomer that is not chiral cannot be differentiated this way.
