Asymmetric film
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000858
A thin film, usually of liquid, that is bounded on its two sides by different bulk phases, for example a liquid film between a solid surface and an air bubble. When the two bounding phases are identical, as in a soap film in air, the film is called symmetric. The two interfaces of an asymmetric film differ in their interaction forces and adsorbed layers, which complicates the analysis of film thinning and rupture.
