Equilibrium film
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004062
A thin layer of material, such as a liquid film on a solid surface, that has reached a stable state where its properties no longer change over time. This stability is achieved when the forces acting on the film, such as surface tension and disjoining pressure, are balanced. Such films can be observed in phenomena like foam lamellae or wetting layers.
