Stable

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011263

A thermodynamic descriptor of a chemical species, measured by relative standard molar Gibbs energies. Species A counts as more stable than isomer B when conversion of A into B has a positive standard Gibbs energy change. Stability says nothing about how fast a species reacts, and a long-lived but thermodynamically less stable species is called persistent, as diamond is relative to graphite.
