Chemical potential

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001957

A thermodynamic quantity that measures the change in the Gibbs free energy of a system when an infinitesimal amount of a substance is added, while keeping temperature, pressure, and the amounts of all other components constant. It represents the tendency of a substance to undergo a physical or chemical change. For a pure substance, the chemical potential is equal to its molar Gibbs free energy.
