Surface chemical potential

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011630

The change in the Gibbs energy of a system when an infinitesimal amount of a substance is added to the surface phase, while keeping temperature, pressure, and the amounts of other components constant. It represents the partial molar Gibbs energy of a component at the interface. This potential drives mass transfer to and from the surface.
