Reactive

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009973

A kinetic descriptor for a chemical species that has a larger rate constant than a chosen reference species for a stated elementary reaction under stated conditions. It has meaning only relative to that reference and those conditions, and it is not applied to the reactions of compounds in general. Reactivity is separate from thermodynamic stability: a species can be unstable yet slow to react.
