Trioxides
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013670
A class of compounds characterized by a linear chain of three covalently bonded oxygen atoms, with the general structure R−O−O−O−R′, where R and R′ are organic or inorganic groups. These compounds are highly reactive and thermally unstable due to the weak oxygen-oxygen bonds. Dihydrogen trioxide (H2O3) and bis(trifluoromethyl) trioxide (CF3OOOCF3) are known examples of this class.
