Relative counting efficiency
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010139
A comparison of two detectors in which the efficiency of the detector under test, meaning the fraction of emitted radiation it records, is divided by the efficiency of a chosen reference detector. It is dimensionless and often quoted as a percentage. For a germanium gamma-ray detector the reference is conventionally a 3 inch by 3 inch sodium iodide crystal, with both compared for 1332 keV photons from cobalt-60.
