Relative electrode potential

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010140

The potential difference between an electrode and a reference electrode, measured under specific conditions. It represents the electromotive force of a half-cell reaction when coupled with a standard hydrogen electrode, which is assigned a potential of zero volts. These potentials are tabulated and used to predict the spontaneity of redox reactions.
