Reference electrode
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010062
An electrode that maintains a stable and known potential, serving as a benchmark against which the potential of other electrodes in an electrochemical cell is measured. It provides a constant half-cell potential, allowing for accurate determination of the potential of a working electrode. Common examples include the standard hydrogen electrode, calomel electrode, and silver/silver chloride electrode.
